The Psychology of Suicide: Recognizing and Responding to Emotional Distress
Join Dr. Joe Orovecz as he presents a noontime webinar for anyone interested in learning more about suicide intervention and prevention. Joe’s presentation will include how to recognize warning signs of suicide and communicate supportively with an individual experiencing emotional distress. Joe will also share resources that can be helpful in times of crisis and provide guidance for maintaining one’s own well-being while trying to support others.
About the presenter: Dr. Orovecz is a psychologist at the Help Center, where he provides brief counseling, facilitates trainings, and supervises trainees. Joe’s 15 years of experience in the field of crisis and suicide intervention and prevention includes volunteering on crisis lines, serving on campus and community suicide prevention committees, and teaching courses on the psychology of suicide. He continues to serve the crisis intervention community by training crisis hotline volunteers and supporting the ongoing evaluation of training effectiveness.
