The Power of the Present Moment – The What, How, and Why of Mindfulness

February 28, 2022

Mindfulness refers to a set of perspectives and practices that encourage living in the present moment. Cultivating present moment awareness is associated with well-being and happiness and benefits our health, our emotions, and our relationships. While mindfulness is a simple concept, the practice isn’t as straightforward as it sounds, and people often experience some common challenges when trying to cultivate this awareness in their daily life.

In this noontime webinar, we will discuss what clinical science says about the benefits of mindfulness and explore the broad concepts to make it feel clear and approachable. We’ll use leading clinical and research frameworks to understand what practicing mindfulness is and how to do it. You will walk away with a better understanding of this basic human ability to be fully present, as well as a toolkit to tackle some of the challenges you may face when developing and maintaining a mindfulness practice.

Instructor: Sarah Hagerty, PhD, is a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University and VA Palo Alto Health Care System in the Williams Pan Lab. Her research includes evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions, and she uses mindfulness in her clinical practice to help clients shift their perspective and live a life worth living.
