The Rest of Your Life
When you are not working, do you feel “lazy” or that you are wasting time? Do you feel “guilty” when you are not being productive? Did you know that there is more than one type of rest and ironically, not all of them leave you feeling rested?
Join us for this 2-part, interactive workshop to learn how to bring rejuvenating rest into your busy life. In the first session, we will gain a deeper understanding of the integrative nature of wholesome time off and benefits of “deep play.” Then, working as a class and in smaller breakout groups, we will seek to shift our “rest mindsets” by wrestling with our beliefs and feelings about not working and put together a strategy for “planned resting” in the week ahead. In second session, we will come back together to compare notes on our experiences from the week, share successes and find movement where there is “stuckness.”
Please be prepared to actively participate in group activities and breakout rooms and to put your “resting” plan into action between classes. By learning how to rest and play with intention and discernment, you just might feel even better at work while increasing the quality of the REST of your life.
Instructor: Donnovan Somera Yisrael, MA, is a senior health educator with iThrive: Student Health and Well-Being at Stanford and brings a positive psychology perspective to all of his teaching. He is also a grief educator and volunteer with Kara in Palo Alto.
