Physical Activity After 40, June 23 – July 7, 2021

June 23, 2021 | 12:00pm - 1:15pm

Physical activity has important benefits at every age. Our culture, however, tends to associate physical activity and intensive exercise with youth and early adulthood. In fact, the greatest health benefits of new or increased physical activity occur at older ages. This is because physical activity’s significant preventive impacts are greatest among people at higher risk of developing chronic disease.

This online class focuses on those over 40 years of age who are looking to initiate or increase physical activity. With a practical focus on the unique needs of an aging workforce, this three-session course will review the science of disease prevention and how a broad definition of physical activity fits into overall health. We will explore the extensive benefits of physical activity as we age and introduce practical mind-body strategies for integrating movement into your life. You will also learn about the need for strength, flexibility, and balance training and strategies for initiating and maintaining new physical activity routines.

By the end of the course, you will understand the benefits of physical activity as an older adult as well as actionable strategies to safely incorporate more physical activity into your daily life.
